Starting Your Own Affiliate Program

Many people create ebooks with the expectation of making lots of money. However, many ebooks make little or no money due to a lack of sales. Developing a product is only half of the job. You need to develop an effective marketing strategy to make money with your ebook. One of the most successful strategies to promote your ebook is through the use of affiliate programs.

An affiliate program allows others to sell your product and receive a commission on each sale they generate. With your own affiliate program, you can easily attract an army of affiliates to sell your product. Each time an affiliate makes a sale, you make money and the affiliate receives a percentage of the sale. You determine the percentage that affiliates get when you initiate your affiliate program. It is important to note that affiliates are only paid if and when they make sales. So it does not cost you anything if an affiliate makes no sales.

There are many ways to start your own affiliate program. You can purchase software that will allow you to keep track of affiliates and their sales. This is fine if you have lots of time and are very detail oriented. An easier method is to use a third party affiliate processor. These companies take care of all the details. They sign up people who would like to become affiliates, list your product in their market place, manage payments for your product, and track all transactions. Some of them will pay your affiliates directly and others will send you the transaction details and leave it up to you to pay your affiliates.

A primary benefit to using a third party processor is the fact that these companies will list your product in their marketplace. Affiliates scan the marketplace to find products that they want to promote. If an affiliate likes your product, they can easily promote it with a few clicks of their mouse.

Creating a product is only half the battle. If you already have your own product, or would like to develop one, you can increase your sales tremendously by starting your own affiliate program.

Making My First Million on the Internet

Like many of you, I began my Internet business full of hope and optimism. I planned on making my first million within a year or two. At that point, I’d tell my boss what he could do with his job! We’d get that house on the beach and the black Jaguar we always wanted. Ahhh, life will be good!

Having no idea how an Internet business worked, I did some research. The information I learned, enticed me to buy three or four ‘How to Make Millions’ programs. In addition, to further my studies, I joined list after list to increase my knowledge. Soon, my email box was stuffed every day with more and more ‘Get Rich Quick’ offers. Because I’m a slow learner, I bought a couple of these programs and again, I lost money. I was beginning to think that Internet businesses were nothing but scams. Not only did I NOT make my million dollars, I was losing money left and right trying to get rich using worthless programs!

By this time, I’d been in business for a couple of months and already I was out a thousand dollars. And to make matters worse, I’d only made about $25 in profits. At about this time, I finally figured it out; it’s not really possible to get rich quick (unless you’re very lucky). There had to be a better way!

I did more research (and this time, I did not visit sales pages). I investigated how the most successful Internet entrepreneurs made money. I found out that almost all of the most successful gurus’s have their own products to sell. Most of them use digital products and they depend heavily on affiliate programs to make their money. They get hundreds, or even thousands of us to sell their products for them. And each time an affiliate makes a sale, they make money.

So I set out to copy their efforts and develop my own product. Not being a writer, I needed a way to get my ebook written by someone else. And I needed to get it done by spending as little money as possible. I developed 3 methods to get others to write my ebook for me. Two of those methods are absolutely free. I started my own affiliate program and within a day, people were joining my program. Within 4 days, some of the affiliates were beginning to generate sales. And I was making money! Not millions, but a few dollars here and a few dollars there. Soon, I was making money on a consistent basis. During my third month, I made almost 500 dollars. It wasn’t a million, but that is the real way to make money on the Internet.

I took meticulous notes on every aspect of my plan and documented the entire process. I wanted to make sure that others could duplicate my techniques. I put these notes into a file for future reference. Two months ago, I found my original notes and developed them into an ebook. If you want to make money on the Internet, forget the ‘Get Rich Quick’ schemes, they don’t work. The real money on the Internet is made by developing your own product and starting an affiliate program.

Starting Your Internet Business - Free vs Paid Services

When you are just starting your Internet business and you have no experience, you want to keep your expenses down. This gives you an opportunity to explore the business without spending much money. For that reason alone, it is a very good idea. Let’s face it, some people are not equipped to operate a website. As in any business, some people are better at it than others. So, if you can try out an Internet business for free, you should probably do so.

Almost everything you need for your Internet business can be obtained for free. Do you need a free payment processor for your website? PayPal, along with a number of other companies, can handle that quite nicely. How about a free autoresponder? A search will provide many alternatives for you. What about traffic, is it available for free? It sure is, writing articles, visiting forums, placing free classified ads, and posting to your blog are all free methods to generate traffic. By doing a search, you can find many more ways to get free traffic, but you’ve probably got to put some effort into it, and it won’t happen quickly. But, it is free.

The final item that is required to operate an Internet business is a website. Are there any websites that are available for free? You bet! Doing a search for free websites will bring up hundreds of possibilities.

And that brings us to the point of this article. Is there any advantage of using a paid webhost versus a free one? That depends on the type of website you need. If you are just using your website as a photo gallery so Aunt Mary can view a few pictures of the new baby, you’re probably fine with the free version. However, if you have a commercial website and you are trying to make money, paid webhosting is something you will want to explore as soon as you can afford it.

In addition to the fact that free websites load more slowly, free sites contain ads that are embedded on your site by the host. You make no money from these ads, the company hosting your site profits from these. Sometimes they can be very distracting to your visitors, especially if they use numerous pop-up ads.

Another big disadvantage to using free websites is the limited amount of bandwidth allowed. Each time a visitor comes to your site and downloads something; they are using some of your bandwidth. Free websites provide you with a very limited amount of bandwidth each month. If you have used your monthly allowance of bandwidth, visitors to your site will see a message that says, ‘Website Closed – Exceeds allocated Bandwidth’. This is not acceptable if you have a commercial website. If you see this happening to your website, you need to investigate paid webhosting. Most paid hosting solutions will allow you to have many times the bandwidth available versus your free website. And the cost is quite reasonable, you can have your website hosted for as little as five to ten dollars per month.

As you can see, it is possible to start an Internet business with little or no money. However, if you are operating a commercial site in order to make money, you should switch over to paid services as soon as your budget permits. In almost every case, the paid service is far superior to the free alternative.

Using Joint Ventures for Big Profits AND List Building

A joint venture (jv) is an agreement between two or more parties or businesses. This agreement, usually short term in nature, details the distribution of goods or services and allows both parties to share in the profits or losses of the venture. Joint ventures are very powerful marketing techniques that are becoming increasingly popular with many Internet marketers.

Joint ventures are very effective for both selling a product and building a list. Using JV’s, you can launch your business to thousands of targeted customers very quickly, and the best part is that you can do it for FREE.

JV's are great way for you to quickly launch your product, even if you don't have a mailing list. By finding a few joint venture partners who like your product and have big lists in your niche, you can increase you income overnight. Some JV’s make thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars. Some of them even produce six figure paydays.

It is also a great way for someone new to the business to quickly gain credibility in their niche. If your product has an affiliate program, it can continually gain more sales and add subscribers to your list.

One of the most difficult activities regarding joint ventures is recruiting potential partners. The most successful Internet marketers receive numerous joint venture requests on a daily basis. Make a good first impression and stand out from the crowd.

Find high quality, high traffic sites in your niche and contact the webmasters. Contacting ezine owners is a great way to find JV partners. Always be personal in all your mailings to your potential partners. Never send an email to ‘Dear Webmaster’; these emails are deleted without being read. Do some research and personalize your offer.

Before contacting possible partners, make sure your product and website look professional. Make them an offer they can't refuse! Offer them really big commissions, offer to promote their products in your email follow-ups to your list, offer to do all of the work. The less work they have to do, the more likely they are to accept your offer. Provide a few sample emails.

Be specific in your initial offer; tell them the retail price and normal conversion rates. Tell them what percentage they’ll get and what price their subscribers will pay. You only have one email to gain their interest. Do the research and prep work; it will be worth your while.

By doing this on a regular basis, you are bound to find good partnership opportunities. And after you’ve completed the first one, you will be anxious to do more.

If you are interested in doing a joint venture,

Develop Your Own Product and Affiliate Program

Are you making as much money as you hoped on the Internet? Are you making any money at all? If you answered no to either of these questions, I’ll bet that you do not have your own product. In order to make real money on the Internet, you need to have your own product.

I know what you are thinking. What about affiliate sales? Yes, some people make money as affiliates, but most people make very little. I know because I have affiliates selling my products. Out of one hundred affiliates selling a particular product, only four or five make significant money. The remaining ninety-five affiliates just make an occasional sale here and there.

If you still don’t believe that you need your own product, look at the Internet super-stars, the guru’s. They are not selling my products; they’re selling their own products. If you want to be really successful in this, or any business, do what the super-stars do. Not only do they have their own products, they setup affiliate programs and allow others to sell their products.

Find something that you are good at and develop your own product. If you don’t feel that you are capable of making your own product, you can get somebody else to do it. There are ways that you can get others to develop a product for you, and have it done absolutely free.

It is best to develop digital products, like ebooks. Ebooks can be set up so that the entire procedure is automatic. You can automate the sales process, payment collection, product delivery, and the distribution of receipts. Your only job is to get buyers to the sales page and collect the money. I like the second part best.

In addition, you can develop your own affiliate program and make money when they sell your product. Of course, only four to five percent of your affiliates will make significant amounts of money. But, if they make significant money, so do you!

So get off the sofa and do something. Get over to that computer, develop your ebook, and make some money!
