How To Get Online Discounts And Save Serious Money

We’ve all seen those online shopping sites that ask you to enter your discount codes. I was sure it was some kind of scam to somehow get more money out of me. Probably just some kind of ‘come-on’ to save 10 cents on my next purchase. “Not worth the effort,” I thought.

One day last week I was in the office with my wife as she was making an online purchase and I asked her why she was wasting her time entering the discount code. With that air of superiority that wives sometimes get, she said she was saving us some money.

“Big deal,” I answered, “do that 40 times and we’ll be able to buy an extra gallon of gas!”

She explained that this coupon will save 30% percent off the price of her purchase. As it turned out, the total amount of her order was for $50, and she really did get 30% (or $15) off. The total cost of her $50 order turned out to be $35! I was very pleasantly surprised.

Two good sources to find promotional codes are at currentcodes dot com and retailmenot dot com. You can search for discount coupons by merchant, alphabetically, or by category. The problem is, while my wife is searching for one discount code, she usually finds some other ‘must have’ bargain that she can’t pass up. So, in the long run, it doesn’t save us much money. But if you’re disciplined, you really can save a substantial amount of money!
