Making My First Million on the Internet

Like many of you, I began my Internet business full of hope and optimism. I planned on making my first million within a year or two. At that point, I’d tell my boss what he could do with his job! We’d get that house on the beach and the black Jaguar we always wanted. Ahhh, life will be good!

Having no idea how an Internet business worked, I did some research. The information I learned, enticed me to buy three or four ‘How to Make Millions’ programs. In addition, to further my studies, I joined list after list to increase my knowledge. Soon, my email box was stuffed every day with more and more ‘Get Rich Quick’ offers. Because I’m a slow learner, I bought a couple of these programs and again, I lost money. I was beginning to think that Internet businesses were nothing but scams. Not only did I NOT make my million dollars, I was losing money left and right trying to get rich using worthless programs!

By this time, I’d been in business for a couple of months and already I was out a thousand dollars. And to make matters worse, I’d only made about $25 in profits. At about this time, I finally figured it out; it’s not really possible to get rich quick (unless you’re very lucky). There had to be a better way!

I did more research (and this time, I did not visit sales pages). I investigated how the most successful Internet entrepreneurs made money. I found out that almost all of the most successful gurus’s have their own products to sell. Most of them use digital products and they depend heavily on affiliate programs to make their money. They get hundreds, or even thousands of us to sell their products for them. And each time an affiliate makes a sale, they make money.

So I set out to copy their efforts and develop my own product. Not being a writer, I needed a way to get my ebook written by someone else. And I needed to get it done by spending as little money as possible. I developed 3 methods to get others to write my ebook for me. Two of those methods are absolutely free. I started my own affiliate program and within a day, people were joining my program. Within 4 days, some of the affiliates were beginning to generate sales. And I was making money! Not millions, but a few dollars here and a few dollars there. Soon, I was making money on a consistent basis. During my third month, I made almost 500 dollars. It wasn’t a million, but that is the real way to make money on the Internet.

I took meticulous notes on every aspect of my plan and documented the entire process. I wanted to make sure that others could duplicate my techniques. I put these notes into a file for future reference. Two months ago, I found my original notes and developed them into an ebook. If you want to make money on the Internet, forget the ‘Get Rich Quick’ schemes, they don’t work. The real money on the Internet is made by developing your own product and starting an affiliate program.

Internet Marketing Tactics to Climb That Ladder of Success

There is no trick in marketing your product or business on the Internet. It is work, just like any other job. If you want to be successful, there are certain things (pronounced jobs) that you’ve got to do. Granted, there are many ways to do it, but they all involve some effort on your part.

Write Articles

I enjoy writing articles to market my sites and products. But, just because I enjoy it, doesn’t mean that it is not work. I’m just fortunate that I enjoy that part of my job.

I write at least one article every day, seven days a week. If you want to be successful writing articles, you’ve got to write that many, or more. Each article consists of about 500 words and it takes me 30 to 40 minutes to write each one. Some of my articles attract more readers than others. My most successful articles can draw almost 1000 readers over the course of a month (and that’s just in one ezine that I track). These are the ones that I live for. Each of these super articles entices hundreds of people to visit my visit my sites each month. I wish all of my articles could achieve that kind of success.

Most of my articles attract one to two hundred viewers per month (again, at the one ezine I track). And that kind of performance is okay too. Each article I write brings people to my site and that is my goal in writing articles.

Forums

Visit forums related to your niche and keep your eyes open. Look for, and answer, questions that are related to your particular area of expertise. If you do this frequently, you will soon be regarded as an expert in this area. Each time you post an answer, make sure your signature includes an enticing advertisement for your website (or product). This is the main reason that you visit these sites. Your posts will remain visible on the forum for some time. If you post frequently, it can provide you with an excellent source of visitors to your website.

Offer a freebie

Make sure you offer something free to your website visitors if they subscribe to your list. Everybody likes free stuff. It is important to give people an incentive to provide you with their name and email address. As people join your list, you will email them with information, free offers, and information through your autoresponder. A growing list and an autoresponder are also keys to your Internet marketing success.

If you make the routines above part of your daily job, you will be successful. However, patience is required, it takes time to develop almost any business. And, like with any job, you’ve just got to do it. Do your job every day and you will slowly but surely, climb that ladder of success.

I’m not saying that you will earn billions with your affiliate program. But, if your Internet business is struggling, an affiliate program is something you should consider. It could make the difference between just getting by and making a very nice living.

But before you can establish an affiliate program, you need your own product. Developing an ebook is an excellent product to start with. Ebooks are well received by the public, they sell very well, depending of course on the subject matter, and they are fairly easy to put together.

Using an affiliate network to sell your product is fastest way to achieve success. So get busy. Spend sometime on developing your own product.

Grow Your Business Using Joint Ventures

Starting an Internet business is much like a start-up in any other business. It is not easy. You’ve got to make arrangements for products you intend to sell, design a professional looking website, develop effective sales pages, advertise, attract traffic to your site, and entice visitors to click on your links and buy your products. All this takes time to develop. If you are looking to get rich overnight, buy a lottery ticket instead.

One effective way to generate business for your new online company is with the use of joint ventures. Small companies might team up to build their reputations, increase the size of their subscriber list, or generate income. There are many types of joint ventures that you can enter into. In fact, you are only limited by your imagination.

Choose your partners carefully. Make sure your partner has a business mindset, attitude, and moral code similar to yours. Develop written goals for your partnership. Clearly define the responsibilities of each partner in writing. Many joint venture partnerships fail for this reason. Always be open and honest with your business proposals. Do not hype your business with facts that are not true.

With your initial joint ventures, team up with companies that are similar in size to your own. Send out press releases announcing your joint ventures. This publicity may entice larger companies to approach you with joint venture proposals.

Finally, joint ventures can only work if you pursue them. Send out joint venture proposals on a regular basis. Through persistence and hard work, your joint ventures can grow your Internet business nicely.

How to Start Making Money on the Internet

Like everyone else, I struggled in the beginning as I stated my Internet business. After two months, I still hadn’t made any real money. During that time, I think I made less than $2.00 in Adsense revenue. Hardly enough to live on!

At about that time I did a thorough analysis of my Internet business. I closely examined what I was doing and what I needed to change in order to be successful. After a thorough assessment, I put those changes into effect.

I got rid of my free autoresponder and signed up for the paid version. Too many of my emails were ending up in my prospects’ junk/bulk email boxes. This led to an immediate improvement in my email response rates. Obviously, my emails were now getting through to inboxes.

I bought a domain name and arranged for quality hosting. This resulted in an immediate improvement in the number of clicks that my articles were achieving.

I initiated a few pre-sell pages and noticed my affiliate sales began to inch higher. But still, I wasn’t earning a substantial amount of money.

I determined that I needed one more critical item to jump-start my income. I needed my own product. Over the course of the next month, I developed my own Ebook, sales page, and ad campaign. I advertised my Ebook using four paid ads (at ten dollars each), free ezine ads, and my articles.

During my first full month marketing my own product, I made almost $400. I re-invested half of the proceeds into additional ads and I made $1,200 in my second full month.

The Two Secrets to Achieve Writing Success

People always ask me for the one or two secrets to achieving success in marketing articles for income. Secret number 1, write. Secret number two, submit. That’s pretty much it. Of course there are many details that you need along the way: a properly constructed Resource Box, a great title, and a few other details. But, you need to write and submit.

Some days, I’ll write just one or two articles and I’ll submit them to my entire list of article submission sites, about 150. When I feel more energetic, I write four to five articles and submit them to a list of about sixty sites. On days when I'm really pumped up, I’ll crank out ten or more articles and submit them to my top 10 sites. I’d like to submit them to more sites, but I just don’t have the time when submitting that many articles.

It takes two or three hours to submit an article to my large 150 site list. I can submit to my 60 site list in about forty minutes. And I can submit an article to the short 10 site list in about ten or twelve minutes.

If you submit an article to 60 sites, you can expect to receive between 100 and 200 links over a six-month period. I’m quite happy with that. That’s one of the reasons that I write articles. The other reason is that I’m rather fond of money. I always have been, and I expect I always will be.

The people that ask me about the secret of success are what I call casual writers. They've written less than ten articles and submitted each one to just a few sites. They can’t believe that they didn’t make any money and they haven't witnessed increased traffic. In their mind, article marketing doesn’t work.

To be really successful writing articles, I’m talking about 6 figure successful, you need to write about 1000 articles per year. That’s three a day, every day!

I run my article business according to an old saying: “Work for a while like nobody will, live the rest of your life like nobody can!”

5) They pay talented people to take care of the details on their numerous websites. They pay others to take care of the more mundane day-to-day issues. This frees up their time to work on items that they believe to be more important, like developing new products.

Follow the five steps above and you too you can be successful. Of course there is no guarantee that you will reach the status the top twenty percent. But you might be able to see an increase of thirty or forty percent from your current income levels. By working hard, you have taken the first step toward achieving success. Most successful people have worked very hard to earn what they have. Copy the efforts of those successful individuals and someday, people new to the business may try to imitate you.

Discover How to Write in a Style to Increase Sales

People like dealing with those who are friendly. When interacting in person, we take visual cues from each other. Subconsciously, we note whether the other person is smiling, happy, sad, sincere, trustworthy, etc. We listen to verbal clues as well to gain insight into their personality. We do this without even realizing it. After meeting someone new, we know in less than a minute whether we like that person or not, and we may not even know why.

On the Internet, we don’t get visual or verbal cues. We can’t hear the enthusiasm in someone’s voice. Much of the information we receive there is through the written word. When I first started out, I had an experience that has stayed with me and served me well.

Shortly after starting in this business, one of my subscribers contacted me by email. He addressed me by my first name and his email was written in a pleasant conversational tone. It sounded like my subscriber, whom I’d never met and did not even recall, was writing to an old friend. Because of the regular emails that he received from me, he felt as though he was talking to an old friend.

I thought, “That’s really nice. He feels as though he knows me through the regular messages sent out by my autoresponder. And through his tone, it sounds like he thinks I know him too.”

Ever since I received that email, I make a special effort to write my autoresponder messages, sales pages, and Ebooks as though I’m talking to a friend. Notice that I didn’t say friends (plural). I want each reader to think that the information they are reading is a personal message I crafted just for them.

I start out with a friendly greeting and address them by their first name whenever possible. I use the terms “you” and “I” liberally in the body of my message. I try to use a conversational tone, similar to what I would say if I was talking to them in person. In my sign-off, except for the first few mailings, I use just my first name.

If I can make one suggestion to you, always write in a friendly conversational tone. People are more inclined to buy from someone they like and trust. Convey those traits in your writing style and you will attract friends as well as success.

3) They continually work to build traffic to their websites. Expanding traffic today equals a growing income tomorrow. Each day, spend some time on efforts to increase traffic to your website and blogs.

By working hard, you can achieve great success. Of course there is no guarantee that you will reach the status of super success. But most people would probably be happy with a thirty or forty percent increase from their current income levels. By working hard and following the three steps above, you can be well on your way to a successful Internet business. Most Successful Internet marketers have worked very hard to earn they have. If you are making $1,000 each month, reinvest one quarter to one half of your profits. By doing this, you can expect to double your monthly income in a relatively short time.

No matter how successful you become, you should continually reinvest a portion of your profits back into the business. That way, you will be setting the stage to make an ever-increasing income. Or, if you prefer, you can maintain a stable income and work less hours. Either way, it is always in your best interests to reinvest a portion of the profits.

And, if you've done everything right, you could be on that road to riches beyond your wildest dreams. I’m not saying that you will earn a million dollars in six months, but, maybe you’ll do it in eight months (wink).
