2 Key Questions That Will Determine Your Success Or Failure In Business

More than 90% of all home businesses fail to make money. But why is that? Most people start a home business without having any knowledge of what is required to be successful. They hear the hype and think it’s easy to make money online; just open a website and start cashing checks. Well, unfortunately it’s not that easy.

In any business, there are certain jobs that must be done. For your online business, you must develop traffic. There are many ways to build traffic. But, all of them require either time or money. Before starting your own business, ask your self these two questions:

1. How much time can you devote to developing you business?

2. How much money can you invest in your business?

These are just some of the factors that you need to consider. If you answered ‘very little’ and ‘none’ to the questions above, you are probably not well suited to start your own home business. You must either commit the time to your business to do what needs to be done, or you have to pay others to do it.

The number one requirement to develop a successful home business is traffic. Traffic is necessary for any type business to be successful. Regardless of whether you have a brick and mortar establishment or an online business, you need traffic to survive.

So how can you develop traffic to your website? There are hundreds of techniques that you can use to build traffic, but you have to determine which techniques are best for you. If you like to write, you can write articles that are related to your business. In each article, include a resource box with links pointing back to your website. This is a very effective way to develop traffic, but it can be somewhat time consuming. As an alternative, you can pay others to write articles for you, but this can be expensive.

And so it is with most other marketing efforts, you either have to have enough time to do it yourself or pay someone else to do the work. That is why the two questions above are key to your success. So consider the two questions above before jumping into that home business idea, it could save you a lot of frustration later.

A Newbie CAN Make Money Online

Many new affiliate marketers will not make money online. In fact, more than 90% will make little or no money during their first year. Why is it that some people can make millions through affiliate marketing while the majority makes no money at all?

One big reason the most newbies fail is they fall for the hype. They may have started their online business because a friend or associate told them about the fantastic profits available with affiliate products. Because of their inexperience, they jump right in and begin doing searches on ‘making money with affiliate products.’ This type of search will bring up many products that help you make money using affiliate products. Unfortunately, some of those products say that you can make millions in a matter of months. Those of us who are experienced know that this type of product is usually a scam. But the newbie falls for the scam and pulls out the credit card.

When a month has passed and he’s made no money, he abandons this product and moves on to something else. He would have been much better off doing his initial research on some of the large forums. If he had, he would have learned that the key to making affiliate money (or any money online) is in generating traffic.

The newbie marketer goes through the same process with this second product. Because he hasn’t learned how to efficiently generate traffic, he has very little hope of making money. Because he only stays with a program for a month or so, he has NO HOPE of making money.

SO, if you are new to this business and want to make money, do your initial research in the large forums. The Warrior Forum and Digital Point are two good ones. Most people in forums are more than willing to help those who are new to the business. Second, whichever program you choose to promote, make sure it is a good, high quality product, and stay with it for a few months. Make sure that you have sent at least 300 people to the merchant’s sales page before you give up and promote something else. By employing these techniques, you increase your chances of making money from ‘no hope’ to a decent chance.

Article Marketing Trick To Increase Page Views

Article marketing is the absolute advertising technique if you are promoting affiliate products. I bet you think that I am going to list all of the standard reasons, right? Wrong. Aside from the all the standard reasons that you’ve heard a thousand times before, there is one more little known secret that I have using that works great.

It is particularly well suited to situations where you are dropping one affiliate product and going with a different one. I have used this technique on numerous occasions and it is a great way to jump start traffic to your new affiliate (or your own) product.

If you write and submit articles, you are no doubt familiar with the author’s resource box. You should have two or three links in each one. One link should direct viewers to your squeeze page and the other two links should point to products that you are recommending. A problem arises when a product that you are promoting ceases to be offered or you no longer like it for some reason. When this happens, you wind up with hundreds of valuable links that are no longer working for you. The articles are still out there attracting viewers and they are still generating URL clicks, but the links are dead. Ughhh!

To get around this, go into the two or three directories that are generating the most traffic for you and edit the resource box. Remove the old affiliate link and enter the new one. This process can be quite time consuming and can take you an entire day or two to complete the process. But, it can pay off big.

When you re-submit the articles that you have edited, they have to be re-approved by the directory. Upon approval, they are placed on page one of their list of articles as though it is a brand new submission. New articles always get more action than older seasoned ones. Using this technique, I have generated five or even ten times the traffic to a new product or affiliate program. This marketing trick can really give a nice jump start to your profits.

5. No more impulse buying. Before you leave your house, make a list of items that you intend to purchase while you are out. If an item is not on the list, you cannot buy it.

6. Cancel any credit cards that you do not use on a regular basis. You know, like the credit cards that are for stores located 50 miles away that you haven’t used in 3 months. If you haven’t used it in three months, you probably don’t need it. So get rid of it and you’ll have one less temptation.

Which Type Of Affiliate Program Is Right For You?

There are several different types of affiliate programs. The typical affiliate program pays you a one-time commission when a sale is completed. The commissions can vary anywhere from 30% to 75% of the sale price. Most people participate in this type of affiliate program.

Another affiliate program that many people ignore is the residual affiliate program. Residual programs typically pay a much lower commission rate. Commissions range between 5% and 15% of the sale price. Because of the lower payouts, they are less popular. However, if you are going to be in business for the long haul, residual programs may be more profitable in the long run.

Residual affiliate programs are most common for products that involve a monthly payment, so you will be paid each month. And your commission will continue to accrue for as long as your customer continues to make his monthly payments.

Let’s consider an example using two autoresponder companies. ABC Company pays a one time upfront commission of fifty dollars for each sale. In that case, you receive one payment of fifty dollars.

XYZ Company uses a residual affiliate system that pays 15%. If they charge your customer twenty dollars each month, you will receive three dollars each month for as long as the customer continues to make payments. If the customer remains with XYZ for 16 months, you will have netted forty-eight dollars. At that point, you are making the same amount of money that you would have made by using ABC Companies commission structure. But, you will continue to be paid for the life of the customer. This could be five years or more. In that case, you would make much more money with the residual affiliate program.

I like to use some of each type of affiliate program. To be honest, if you just have one customer in a residual program, it’s not worthwhile. But if you can get 20 or 50, it starts to add up to some very nice money. So if you are going to be recommending a program and can sign up a large number of people, the residual affiliate program may be a great deal for you.

An Easy Technique To Earn Extra Cash

Are you looking for ways to generate additional income? How would you like to have hundreds of other people earning commissions for you, even if you don’t have your own affiliate program. Well, you can by using tiered programs.

A tiered program is one in which you are paid for commissions that you generate through your own efforts, and you are paid a percentage of the profits for any people that you bring into the program under you. This type of tiered
Program can provide a very nice residual income if you make an effort to bring lots of people into the program. But, if you bring in just one or two people under you, you really won’t see much benefit.

For example, I participate in a tiered program that pays me 10% of the commissions that everyone under me earns. It may not sound like a lot, but it adds up over time. I’ve brought over 90 people into this program. As you get to this level, your earnings can add up nicely. In this situation, it’s like I have 9 people working and generating commissions for me. I’m not going to get rich anytime soon with this program, but it earns me a nice little sum for me each month, even if I do nothing.

How do I bring people into this program? That’s the best part. It’s actually very easy. I don’t send out emails, place ads, or write articles. I don’t spend my time posting in forums, doing joint ventures, or heaven forbid making personal phone calls. Then how do I do it? I have a few ads posted on my website. That’s it. I spent about 5 minutes to design the ads and upload them to my site and that was it.

Over a period of about four months, I have enlisted about 90 people. That works out to over 20 people per month. The toughest part of this program is cashing the checks. Hmmm…. Maybe I should consider setting it up through direct deposit!
